Hanna Worliczek, a PhD candidate at University of Vienna, officialy joined the team as a long-term McDonnell Scholar on April 1. Worliczek, who was previously a short-term McDonnell Scholar in the fall of 2017, will investigate the history and current microscopical practices related to Fluorescence in situ hybridization, a technique used by life scientists to visualize everything from cells in a developing embryo to microbial communities. She will also collaborate with Karl Matlin, faculty emeritus at University of Chicago and now in residence at the MBL, on microscopy-related questions. Worliczek will remain in residence at the MBL through the end of September, 2019.
