Lucie Laplane, co-leader of the McDonnell Initiative group on stem cells, is the lead author in a recent opinion piece in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), published on March 5th. Laplane, along with her scientist and philosopher co-authors argue that philosophy can have “an important and productive impact on science”, and provide a series of cases in which philosophy has had tangible impacts on research in the life sciences.
