McDonnell Initiative project leaders B. Duygu Özpolat and Kate MacCord, along with McDonnell Scholar Beatrice Steinert, and MBL Research Fellow Eric Edsinger, started a new journal club this summer to bring the history of embryology together with modern imaging and microscopy techniques. The journal club, called “Embryo Journal Club: Old Problems, New Solutions” trades off weeks between classic papers on embryology and papers on cutting-edge techniques for visualizing embryos and cells. Each week, the journal club is led by an historian or scientist at the MBL, who puts their own spin on combining the old and new, and results in a post to the Embryo Journal Club’s blog.
